In this interview, Charisse Burden-Stelly discusses her new book, Black Scare/Red Scare: Theorizing Capitalist Racism in the United States (University of Chicago Press, 2023). Her book explores how related panics about Black political power and communism in the early 20th century drove the US government’s attempts at repression of anti-capitalist and anti-racist movements.
Disha Karnad Jani is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Research Training Group (RTG) “World Politics” at Universität Bielefeld. Her current book project is an intellectual history of the League Against Imperialism, 1927-1937. She is the co-host of In Theory, the podcast of the JHI Blog.
